Fort Smith and Norman Wells Health Centre Service Reduction

Public Notice

(July 6, 2022) - Due to ongoing staffing challenges the Fort Smith Health Centre is expecting limited appointment availability for the months of July and August, and the Norman Wells Sahté Got’ine Regional Health and Social Services Centre will be on reduced services from July 4-31, 2022.

Fort Smith

Appointment availability will be limited, and the Health Centre will be accommodating the needs of residents by focusing on urgent and emergent needs. There will be no same-day appointments during this period; however, a doctor will remain on call in the Emergency Department for any urgent and emergent concerns.   Please recognize that due to the circumstances, there is the potential that non-urgent requests for services may be delayed, and that there may only be one physician working in the community at certain times impacting ER capacity and wait times.

We recommend that residents seeking non-urgent healthcare services such as prescription refills, lab results, lab requisitions call the Primary Care Clinic Program Assistants at 872-6205 or 872-6203 to determine how we can best assist you. We also ask that when booking an appointment, residents are clear about the reason they need an appointment and that anyone who is unable to make an appointment please call ahead to cancel so it may be used by someone else.

We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as they are available and would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding as staff do their best to meet people’s needs with the limited resources available.

Emergency services are available by calling 911, or by presenting to the health centre emergency department.

Norman Wells

The Sahté Got’ine Regional Health and Social Services Centre will be on reduced services from July 4th to July 31st due to having less available nurses in the community. Emergency services and less-urgent services will continue to be available.

Non-urgent appointments may be delayed.

Please continue to call the Emergency On Call phone with your concerns at 867-444-4321.
