(Yellowknife, November 25) – The NTHSSA is informing NWT residents that the COVID-19 Vaccine for the 5-11 Age Range is now avaialble.
All communities will see opportunities coming on the schedule starting next week, they will be added as they are finalized and promoted locally. There will be an opportunity in each community before December 15th.
We expect a mix of opportunities:
In schools (information packages and consent forms will be sent home before these happen), not all schools will have clinic opportunities as it will be based on community choice
Mass clinics at health centres or other locations in communities
And ongoing regular appointment opportunities to ensure continued access
Our local staff will be operating these clinics and it won’t be a “touring” model like last time, so access should be easier and more consistent.
These are also opportunities for parents or guardians to get their first, second, or booster doses of COVID vaccine
Please note that clinics will be posted on the schedule continuously as they are finalized. Additionally, if you do not see a clinic in your community for 5-11 vaccinations, contact your local health centre for information.
Appointments can be booked starting at 5:30 pm on Thursday, November 25th with the first appointments taking place on Friday, November 26. All bookings can be made via: our online booking tool.
Notes for appointments:
- At this time we will not be taking walk-ins, to ensure a good experience for everyone who does book an appointment. We may shift this as we go and learn about how long these appointments take and how many people we can handle. In general sometimes it takes a bit longer to do the education, answer questions, and make kids comfortable in this setting so we ask for some patience out of the gate.
- Each appointment can accommodate up to 4 people (for example: 2 parents, 2 kids)
- Vaccine is only available for people who are at least 5 years of age at the time of the appointment.
