COVID-19 Booster Doses Expanded  to all NWT Residents 18+

Public Notice

(Yellowknife, October 28, 2021) - On direction of the Chief Public Health Officer, eligibility for booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine is being expanded to all NWT residents in all communities who are or will be 18 years of age by December 31, 2021

Booster doses increase immunity and are being offered on a voluntary basis, after a minimum of six (6) months following a resident’s second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Please note booster doses and 3rd doses are different. A booster contains less vaccine product than a 3rd full dose. If you are immune-compromised you may be eligible for a 3rd dose instead of a booster so please tell your healthcare provider at your immunization appointment.

At this time booster doses are only available to NWT residents. If you are a resident but do not yet have an NWT health card please bring proof of residence (utility bill, job offer, driver's license with NWT address, etc) to your appointment. Non-residents should follow the COVID-19 vaccine schedule of their originating province when they return to their home locations.

For opportunities in your community please review the current schedule. Residents do not need to book multiple appointments if they are seeking both flu and COVID-booster shots. This includes in Yellowknife where a single online booking appointment can be used for both COVID and flu. For Yellowknife, online booking is encouraged; however, if you are unable to book online, limited walk-ins are accepted between the hours of 11:00am and 6:00pm.

COVID-19 boosters can be received at the same time as the annual flu vaccine; the current schedule of flu clinic opportunities is available at www.nthssa.ca/flu. If you do not yet see your community on this schedule, check back or contact your health centre as details are being finalized. Please indicate at the time of your appointment which vaccine(s) you are requesting.

First and second dose COVID-19 vaccinations are still available for all eligible persons. Those who are fully immunized (2 doses) still have strong protection against COVID-19, including the Delta variant.

We ask that all residents follow the public health guidelines regarding masking and socially distancing while attending your appointment.
