COVID Vaccine
Vaccine Roll-Out in NWT
NOTE: This information is subject to change, logistics and schedules continue to be adjusted. This schedule is being provided to show the latest planning and to set expectations with the caveat that things will continue to change as plans are finalized.
For information on the Moderna Vaccine or the NWT Vaccine Strategy please visit the GNWT COVID-19 Website.
COVID-19 vaccine will be offered to community members based on priority determined in the NWT Vaccine Strategy. The schedule below represents the latest detail available for clinic schedules, this schedule is updated as information becomes available and reviewed at least weekly. If information about your community is not available below, please check back for updates.
If you need information about vaccine opportunities in your community and dates are listed below, please contact your health centre for more information.
Important Note on Second Doses:
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends the second dose be given between 28 and 42 days after the first dose. NACI recommendations are updated as new research is available.
The GNWT may deliver second doses to priority populations closer to the 42-day mark to maximize current vaccine supply. The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is reported to be 92% efficacious 14 days or more after the first dose, meaning residents with only one dose are already building strong protection against the disease.

Priority population as defined by the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer OCPHO:
- Advanced age: the risk of COVID-19 severity starts to increase after age 60. Most vulnerable in this category are those who live in long-term care facilities or in shared living environments.
- Existing chronic disease and multiple medical conditions: residents with conditions like chronic lung, kidney, or heart disease are at greater risk for experiencing severe form of COVID-19 and its complications. Those who travel outside the NWT regularly for medical care are at even greater risk.
- Likelihood of transmitting COVID-19 to those at high risk of severe illness and death is another important consideration. This risk group may include frontline health care workers, or those who provide care to high-risk vulnerable populations.
- Resident workers who live in NWT, but work regularly out of territory or at work camps with out-of-territory workers are at elevated risk of acquiring COVID-19 and transmitting to family, household members, or those in the community.
- Living in a remote community, including Indigenous communities, with limited health infrastructure in comparison to larger centers.
Note – priority populations may be further refined, depending on vaccine availability (for example, initially vaccine may be offered only to residents over age 80, then subsequently over 70, etc.)
