Since 2020, the Paid Family/Caregiver Pilot Project has been providing support to community members to remain in their homes for as long as possible.
Pilot participants were chosen based on their assessed needs and provided a caregiver of their choice or one hired through a local community-based organization. All selected caregivers are hired by the community organization responsible for delivering the program.
Caregivers are not meant to replace homecare or long-term care. The caregiver provides a maximum of 4 hours of support per week in the following areas:
- Cleaning or laundry
- Meal preparation
- Hauling wood or snow removal
- Shopping
- Running Errands
As this is a pilot project, this program is currently being trialed in select communities, including: Behchoko, Dettah, N’Dilo, Yellowknife, Hay River, and Tuktoyaktuk.
