Today, we took a major step forward in supporting the advancement of Licensed Practical Nurses' (LPN) practice within the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA). Territorial Clinical Education Nurse Educators and Stanton Staff Development and Education led the first in-person learning lab focused on peripheral intravenous (IV) insertion, care, maintenance, removal, and medication administration for our first group of LPNs.
The day included hands-on skill stations to help consolidate learning and build confidence in real-world clinical scenarios. This is just the beginning, with many more learning labs planned across the Authority in the coming months as NTHSSA Clinical Education supports the expansion of LPN scope of practice in infusion therapy.
And there’s more on the horizon: eLearning to support venipuncture is just around the corner! Empowering LPNs to work with infusion therapy and draw blood will help increase access to care and reduce wait times for patients across the territory.
Thank you to all our nurses for your compassion, leadership, and commitment to high-quality care as we continue to celebrate you as part of National Nursing Week.
