Indigenous Nurses Day Spotlight: Lianne Mantla-Look

Blog Post

On this Indigenous Nurses Day, as recognized by the Canadian Nursing Association, we celebrate the unique perspectives, contributions, and dedication that Indigenous nurses bring to our healthcare system.

As part of this day of recognition, the NTHSSA is proud to spotlight Lianne Mantla-Look of the Tłı̨chǫ region. Originally from Behchoko, Lianne is the first Tłı̨chǫ resident to become a nurse. Lianne has worked extensively in clinical roles both in hospital and community settings and works fluently in both in Tłı̨chǫ and English.

A recognized leader, Lianne has played a critical role in promoting culturally-appropriate healthcare and was extensively involved in advising and engaging with Tłı̨chǫ Indigenous leadership during COVID-19, particularly in brokering relationships between community government and health system leaders.

Lianne is currently registered as a graduate open studies student at the University of Alberta and works part-time at Yellowknife public health.

Thank you, masì cho, miigwetch, and nakurmiik to Lianne – and all Indigenous nurses – who provide essential care for NWT residents every day!
