Measles Response: Planning for Future Clinics and Recognizing Swift Action

Public Notice

YELLOWKNIFE (May 23, 2025) – As Public Health staff continue to mitigate the spread of measles in Yellowknife, the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) remains committed to supporting this response and is actively planning clinics focused on the MMR vaccine, to ensure eligible residents who are not immunized, can protect themselves from potential exposures in the future.

The NTHSSA occasionally hosts pop-up clinics that are designed to be quick, accessible, and open to all eligible individuals, with no appointment needed. As details on these clinics become available and more are added, the NTHSSA will share confirmed times and locations to www.nthssa.ca/en/pop-up-clinics and through social media.

The NTHSSA would also like take a moment to recognize the swift response from Yellowknife Public Health staff and leadership. Over the past few weeks, they have worked tirelessly to safely administer immunizations to teachers and students, allowing previously closed schools to reopen. Their rapid response has played a crucial role in helping to curb the spread of the virus and highlights the often unseen but vital work being done behind the scenes to safeguard the health and well-being of our community.

This includes health care staff who were redeployed to support a large volume of immunization requests received within the first 24 hours of the Public Health Advisory, as well as staff who worked behind the scenes to quickly stand up emergency management measures.

The NTHSSA also appreciates the cooperation and patience from the public as staff worked to mitigate further exposure of the virus.
