Public Service Announcement
(Yellowknife, March 11, 2025) - March is Social Work Month and the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) wants to take a moment to recognize the vital contributions that Social Workers make in our communities daily.
At the NTHSSA, Social Workers make up the teams that support programming such as Child and Family Services, Healthy Families, Family Preservation, Medical and Adult Social Work, Community Social Work, Mental Health and Community Wellness, and many more. Through this work, Northwest Territories (NWT) residents are supported in various settings including healthcare, schools, homes and community. Social Workers hold both front facing and behind the scenes essential roles in supporting children, youth and families in diverse ways.
A Community Social Services Worker is often the first point of contact for families in crisis. These professionals offer support in navigating the different programs and services that are available to help families deal with challenges they may be facing. The Social Workers in the community counselling program are on the frontline providing in-person and virtual counselling services for residents when and where they need it; and those individuals working to support the NTHSSA's child and youth counselling program provide supports to students, as well as school-aged youth and their families.
The contributions made to the individuals, families, and communities served, are immeasurable. The NTHSSA wants to thank Social Workers across the Territory for their dedication to supporting the wellbeing of others, and we encourage residents to also take a moment this month to recognize and appreciate the impact that Social Workers have in the NWT.
Over the course of the month, the NTHSSA will be profiling Social Workers on the NTHSSA Facebook page, and we hope residents will join us in celebrating Social Work Month by acknowledging the Social Workers in your community as we know ‘Social Work is Everywhere’.
