Recognizing National Addictions Awareness Week: Reducing Stigma

November 22nd to 28th is National Addictions Awareness Weeks (NAAW), and this year, the theme is the “Change Begins with me.”

Addictions and substance abuse impact a broad number of people in various walks of life.

Addictions look different for each person. While for some it may involve drug and alcohol abuse, for others it may be gambling or other addictions. Each of us have a role to play in reducing the stigma, and supporting those in our network to seek help. This addictions awareness week, help reduce the stigma surrounding addictions.

If you or someone you know needs help, visit your local health centre or meet with your community counsellor or wellness worker to get the support you need.

Throughout the week follow NTHSSA on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) where we will be sharing links and resources related to addictions awareness, reducing stigma, and what supports are available in the NWT.
