YELLOWKNIFE (March 19, 2026) - The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority’s (NTHSSA) Yellowknife Region and Stanton Territorial Hospital will observe a half-day civic holiday on Friday, March 20, 2026 in recognition of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation’s (YKDFN) Spring Carnival.
Service adjustments for Yellowknife on Friday, March 20, 2026, will include the following:
- Closed from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.: Audiology, Child Development Team, Mental Health and Addictions Counselling, Child and Youth Counselling, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Public Health, Speech Language Pathology, and Eye Clinic (Stanton Territorial Hospital). All clients who had appointments scheduled during this period have been rebooked.
- The Centering Pregnancy Program will close at 3:30 p.m.
- Child, Family and Community Wellness offices will be closed from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., but on-call child welfare services will continue to be provided.
The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) provides up to a half-day off work with pay each year in recognition of a community-declared holiday. Services that typically close during statutory holidays are able to close or reduce services to allow staff to attend these community events.
