(Fort Smith, August 14, 2023) – Effective immediately the Fort Smith Health Centre will begin ramp down of services towards closure as community evacuation by air continues. This closure will be in place until further notice.
Planning is currently underway to establish a mobile paramedic service to address basic health needs in the community and for first responders until services can be re-established at the health centre. Emergency services personnel in community will be able to reach the paramedic by radio while communication infrastructure outages continue.
Paramedics will provide services to meet basic health needs for urgent concerns. However; anyone who needs further treatment or assessment may need to be moved out of the community for care depending on their condition.
If residents wish to speak with a Registered Nurse they are encouraged to call 811. For any medical emergencies please call 911.
We remain committed to keeping residents informed and will continue to assess our service levels as the situation unfolds. Any service changes will be announced on the NTHSSA website and via our Facebook.
