Update Regarding Fort Smith Health and Social Services Resumption after Precautionary Evacuation

(Fort Smith – August 6, 2023) The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority is providing an update in follow up to a previous public notice issued regarding precautionary measures taken in Fort Smith related to local wildfire activity. At this time a phased reopening of services is underway, including:

  • The Fort Smith Health Centre will accept in-patient admissions based on case-by-case assessment. Repatriation of patients who are in other locations who may be appropriate to return to the community on an in-patient basis will be assessed on an ongoing basis.
  • A group of Long Term Care residents have been moved back to Fort Smith, with ongoing assessment for further repatriation of these residents in the coming days.  Families are being contacted in advance of moves of residents and will be provided with information at this point of contact.

Any further changes to health and social services operations in Fort Smith will be communicated via public notice issued at www.nthssa.ca and via social media channels. For the most current information on available services please contact the health centre.
