Service Fees

Health and Social Service Authorities in the Northwest Territories will be implementing consistent fees for non-medically necessary services.

What are Service Fees?

Service Fees may be charged by a clinic, hospital or health centre when you receive a service that is not covered by the NWT Health Care Plan.
These fees are not new. Health Authorities in the NWT already charge fees. We are working together to make sure the fees are the same across the NWT.

Which Services require Fees?

Services provided by a doctor or nurse are not covered by the NWT Health Care Plan when they are not considered to be “medically necessary”, or if an individual doesn’t have Canadian health care coverage.

Typically fees are charged for:

  • Vaccinations required for travel
  • Medical examinations required for employment or licensing
  • Copies of medical records in some cases
