(Fort Smith, August 13, 2023) – With a change in approach for Fort Smith from an evacuation order to shelter  in place for remaining residents, the Fort Smith Health Centre will remain open for limited emergency services.

This will include limited onsite emergency nursing and physician services. Some regular diagnostic services – like lab and diagnostic imaging – may not be available and air ambulance transport in and out of the community may be impacted by smoke and fire.

Residents are advised to call 811 for general medical advice, to call 911 in the case of a medical emergency and to call the health centre before presenting for care unless the situation is an emergency.

Residents are also advised that services may be interrupted or become unavailable. Service levels are being reassessed daily and if any changes are made they will be communicated.

We remain committed to keeping residents informed and will continue to assess our service levels as the situation unfolds. Any service changes will be announced on the NTHSSA website and via our Facebook.
