Medical Laboratory Professionals Spotlight: Shelby Genge, Inuvik

Blog Post

In recognition of Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, we are pleased to spotlight Shelby Genge, a Medical Laboratory Technologist based in Inuvik. Originally from Newfoundland, Shelby completed an MLT program in St. John’s before moving to the Beaufort Delta to start her career.

Shelby always knew she wanted to work in a healthcare setting but decided to become an MLT after speaking with family and friends. In her role, she enjoys interacting with patients and following their medical journeys from diagnosis to recovery.

While much of her work is done behind the scenes, Shelby plays a critical role in not only collecting blood, but processing and analyzing samples so that patients can receive important results as soon as possible. This can include anything from analyzing cells through a microscope to troubleshooting quality control results – all of which is crucial to a patient’s diagnosis.

While working in a rural community can pose its challenges, Shelby feels a true sense of community working in Inuvik. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling, hiking, fishing, snowshoeing, paddleboarding, and spending time at the cabin.

Thank you for everything you do, Shelby!
