Public Service Announcement
YELLOWKNIFE (May 11, 2026) – A mock Code Silver will be conducted at Stanton Territorial Hospital on May 13, 2026 as part of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NHTSSA)’s ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness and patient and staff safety.
The mock drill, which will last half an hour, will be conducted from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. It will simulate a lockdown event within the hospital to test staff preparedness in the event of a real Code Silver, which is activated when there is an active assailant on the property.
What to expect during the exercise
- At 10:30 a.m., an overhead page will repeat the line “Mock Code Silver Initiate Lockdown” three times throughout the hospital.
- Managing staff will lead the exercise by reviewing and walking through relevant standard operating procedures with staff.
- Some units may close patient doors as part of the exercise. Urgent medical procedures being undertaken will not be interrupted.
- At the end of the exercise, an overhead page will repeat the line “Mock Code Silver All Clear” three times throughout the hospital.
