News Release

(Yellowknife, February 14, 2023) - The NTHSSA today announced the opening of a new Office of Client Experience. All residents and guests of the Northwest Territories can contact the office if they need to make a complaint, have a compliment, or if they have questions about health and social service’s programs. Services offered by the Office of Client Experience include: 

  • System Navigation
  • Ensuring patients receive culturally safe and equitable care to help deal with the impact of illness and hospitalization
  • Increased access to cultural, spiritual and emotional support
  • Increased access to language supports;
  • Assist to make connections with family members, elders and community organizations
  • Support and solutions as needed for Indigenous Clients and their families when accessing the health and social services system

With the opening of the Office of Client Experience comes the introduction of a new role: Indigenous Patient Advocates. The Advocates are in place to support Indigenous residents and guests in the NWT’s Acute Care Facilities and in the regions. The availability of the Advocates will depend on capacity and demand. The Office of Client Experience will do its best to provide a service to those who request it.

The new Office of Client Experience – which is coordinated by the NTHSSA but serves all regions and communities - creates a central point for feedback for the NWT health and social services system and ads functions and supports to better serve indigenous clients and families. Over time these supports will work to help advance system goals related to cultural safety and better care and services.
