Public Notice
Fort Simpson, NWT (July 18, 2026) - As Fort Simpson begins its reopening plan following the recent wildfire threat and evacuation, the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) wishes to advise the public that the reopening plan for the Fort Simpson Health Centre in the community has been initiated.
Effective immediately, the Health Centre will be open for emergency services only, as staff return to the community. For medical emergencies, please present in person, call the after-hours on-call number at 867-695-3232 or call 911. An update will be provided to community residents on Monday, July 20th, regarding plans to return to full operations.
If you have a non-urgent health issue, residents are reminded that you can call 811 to speak to a registered nurse, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The NTHSSA wishes to thank its staff who supported residents with health and social services during the evacuation, as well as all other essential staff, paramedic teams, contractors, and emergency personnel who supported the evacuation and fire suppression efforts. We wish everyone safe travels back to the community.
And finally, a reminder to all community members that wildfires, evacuations, and crises can have many different impacts on you and your family, even as you return home. If you have questions about managing stress, mood, sleep, or if you or your family members are struggling, there are many supports available to you.
