News Release
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (November 5, 2025) - The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) is sharing updates that have been made to the Public Administrator (PA) Work Plan to reflect progress made during the first three-quarters of the calendar year.
As indicated in the plan, the PA has spent much of his time during this first year getting to know the organization, understanding where the pressures are coming from and making his way across regions to meet with local leaders and residents.
Updates identified in the work plan reflect efforts towards targeted improvements, both big and small, across all regions, that will support the ongoing and evolving challenges and pressures experienced.
In addition to specific status updates identified under actions in the work plan, some new information highlighted that may be of interest to residents includes:
- Information related to work ongoing to develop improvements to the model of care for cabin communities and strengthen small community access.
- Work related to streamlining administrative processes under medical travel to relieve some of the burden of patients during times of high-stress.
- And information about work underway by the PA to review the NTHSSA organization structure and improve efficiencies related to some shared functions within the GNWT.
Dan Florizone, Public Administrator for the NTHSSA shared he is committed to seeing this work through and supporting the organization in the next year of this work. “As I approach the second year as PA, I remain committed to transparent reporting and accountable action on the priorities that matter most. I will continue to nurture relationship and get to know communities and their needs, to ensure that work is focused on areas that can offer the most meaningful results, long-term that support resident and community needs, while also ensuring long-term success for the NTHSSA”.
There is still work to be done, but with this work plan in place and operations focused on aligning actions with the NTHSSA’s mission to delivery quality heath and social services across the NWT that are culturally safe, collaborative, and focused on continuous improvement, the organization is on a positive path forward.
