PUBLIC NOTICE: NTHSSA Encourages Residents to “Make the Right Call” by Contacting their Clinic if they Cannot Attend an Appointment

Public Notice

(Yellowknife – November 22, 2022) As the NWT health and social services system continues to be impacted by staffing shortages leading to service reductions residents are being encouraged to be mindful of appointment availability and ensure they cancel any appointments they cannot attend. To remind residents about the need to conserve resources, the NTHSSA will be running a campaign to encourage patients to cancel their appointments if they are no longer needed or ensure they are putting reminders in their schedule so they are not missed. No-shows end up taking time away from staff and other patients who could have been seen in that time.

From April to October no show rates have been increasing. In October alone, a combined total of 661 no-shows were counted between the Frame Lake Health Clinic and the Yellowknife Primary Care Centre.

For Expanded Same Day Access appointments with the Yellowknife Primary Care Clinic, there have been 42 no-show appointments in October.

In September, Rehabilitation services such as audiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech language pathology services had a total of 120 no-shows.

By reducing the amount of no-shows, the health clinics and services will be able to use time more efficiently and see clients who have been waiting for an appointment sooner.
