(Yellowknife, October 16, 2023) – The NTHSSA is announcing its partnership with Four Roads Consulting to pilot two land-based mental health and wellness Camps for youth 12-18 years of age. Blending Indigenous and westernized approaches, a skilled team will work with youth to begin their healing journey to improved mental health and wellness. This Camp is followed by a holistic after-care component to support youth in ongoing healing and building connections with supports within their Community and Region.
Four Roads Consulting is an Indigenous-owned and operated business with a demonstrated history of successfully implementing land-based healing programs in the NWT. Together, Four Roads Consulting and the NTHSSA aim to strengthen services available to youth seeking culturally safe mental health support that is both culturally relevant and close to home.
Participation is best suited for youth 12-18 years of age who are experiencing challenges related to substance use and mental health, engaging in high-risk behaviours, have current involvement, or are at risk of becoming involved, with the legal system, and are disconnected from positive supports and relationships. Youth should have an interest and willingness to seek support to address the above challenges as participation is voluntary
This work is the initial step in a larger NTHSSA initiative that will result in the development of a continuum of mental health services for youth within the NWT.
