Public Notice: Potential for Delays in Receipt of Diagnostic Imaging Results

Public Notice

(June 29, 2022 – Yellowknife) NWT residents are being notified that due to a service provider change some diagnostic imaging results requested by NWT healthcare providers may experience slight delays in the month of July.

In the NWT radiologist services, which is a specialty focused on the interpretation or reading of diagnostic imaging such as x-rays and computed tomography (CT) scans, are provided by a contracted service. While the procedures that produce the images themselves are completed in the NWT, the specialist physicians that provide the interpretation of these images are completed elsewhere.

On June 30th, the NTHSSA will be changing service providers for this specialty and in the transition period it is expected that imaging results received by NWT providers may experience slight delays. It is expected that routine exams may experience slight delays beyond normal timelines; however this is unlikely to be noticed by patients receiving regular or routine results from their providers.

Exams flagged as urgent or those with critical findings that need to be communicated to healthcare providers or patients immediately will continue to be received quickly as they always are; there will be no change in these results.
