May is National Speech and Hearing Month and this year's theme is "SLPs & Audiologists: Doing More Than You Think," highlighting the vital role they have in our healthcare system. We are pleased to spotlight Anita Reiss. Anita has been working as a speech therapist in Yellowknife for almost ten years now.
"When I moved here nearly a decade ago, I didn’t expect to stay so long, but within a few short months, I knew this was home. I have been lucky to work with a variety of clients and populations through my work, as well as to travel to so many communities throughout the NWT in both a professional and personal context.
I started out working in outpatient pediatrics, and over the last few years, I’ve been working full time at the hospital, working mostly with adults but also with infants and toddlers. The rehab team and my other hospital coworkers are fantastic colleagues.
Outside of work, I relish seasonal activities. Winter is all about skiing, skijoring, fat biking, and snowy dog walks. Summer is the time for gardening, canoe and kayak overnight trips, and swimming in the lake. I’m lucky to have a wonderful community here of friends, animals, colleagues, and activity buddies."
