Temporary Service Reduction at Inuvik Regional Hospital

Inuvik, Northwest Territories (November 7, 2025) -The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) wishes to advise residents that a temporary service reduction has been implemented at Inuvik Regional Hospital (IRH).
This reduction in service will impact labour and delivery services at IRH and any elective or emergency surgeries. It is expected to be in place until Monday, November 10th.

Any patients immediately impacted have been notified and a plan for care has been arranged.

During the temporary suspension, the following measures will be implemented:

  • Patients who were planning to give birth in Inuvik and who are 37 weeks or more in their pregnancy during this timeframe, are being contacted and advised to transfer their care to Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH) in Yellowknife.
  • Pre-and-post natal assessments and care will continue at IRH.
  • Anyone in Inuvik who is pregnant and requires assessment or who goes into labour during this time is asked to please present to the IRH emergency department for care. 
  • Anyone who presents for emergency care at IRH during this timeframe and requires emergency surgery will be transferred to STH in Yellowknife for care.
