February is Therapeutic Recreation Month and the theme for this year is “One Profession, One Voice,” inspiring us to unite and champion the Therapeutic Recreation profession. Join us in acknowledging and celebrating our great teams and staff who provide this service.
Working as an inpatient recreation therapist, Carey provides therapeutic services for individuals throughout their life span using evidence-based, trauma-informed and culturally sensitive person-centered care. Carey supports individuals to draw on their strengths while using leisure, recreation, and play to facilitate change and encourage skill development.“I enjoy collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to help individuals achieve their goals. I appreciate the chance to connect with people while “planting seeds" of knowledge encouraging their personal growth. It is gratifying to see individuals empowered by their strengths while they embrace the benefits of leisure activities."
Additionally, Carey also works with an individual’s support system to explore and adapt leisure opportunities in their own communities.
Outside of work, Carey enjoys spending time with her daughter and friends, engaging in creative leisure activities such as pottery, painting, beading, gardening, cooking, photography, and playing with her two cats, Pom Pom and Ruby.
