Immigration Medicals

All NTHSSA facilities are working to provide safe and accessible health services while ensuring COVID safety precautions are in place. Please call ahead to your intended health services to learn about current COVID restrictions or processes that may affect your visit.

All physicians in the Integrated Primary Care Services in Yellowknife are able to complete an Immigration Medical, based on mutual consent between the client and the practitioner.

STEP 1:

If you would like an Immigration medical exam you must first book a consultation through primary care with a physician and get approved You will then inform Immigration Canada of the name of the physician who will be completing your examination. Please alert staff to your submission deadlines and any interpretation services you may require. This appointment is typically 15 minutes. After the consultation, you may submit the physician’s name to the Immigration Canada office.

STEP 2:

After your successful consultation appointment, you will be scheduled for the Immigration physical exam. This appointment is typically about 1 hour long.

STEP 3:

Your physician will advise you to visit Stanton Territorial for additional x-ray, blood, and urine tests.

STEP 4:

Once all the results are received, Primary Care will fax them to Immigration Canada. This takes 1-2 days after your tests are completed. If the status has not been updated on the IRCC website, your case has been submitted to IRCC by our office but yet to be reviewed by Immigration officials.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I book an appointment online?

No. You must call Yellowknife Primary Care Centre and book a consultation with a doctor in order to get their approval in providing you an Immigration Medical. If you are unable to make a booking through the phone line, you can also complete the online form to request a call back, at www.nthssa.ca/en/callback-request-form


Can I eat before my appointment?

Yes.


Can I have a copy of my report?

Yes. You can order a physical copy of your report from the physician or receptionist.  There is a fee of $0.25 per page for your report.


Do I have to bring medications and relevant medical reports?

Yes. Please create a list of any current medications you are taking, and if possible bring the medication in their original containers with you.


Do you take blood samples at your location?

No, your blood samples will be taken at Stanton Territorial Hospital. No appointment is necessary; you may arrive with your requisition form and check-in at the Registration desk near the front entrance. You will be directed to the appropriate area to await your turn for sampling.

Is the x-ray clinic located in the same building as your clinic?

No, the x-ray clinic is located in Stanton Territorial Hospital. No appointment is necessary; you may arrive with your requisition form and check-in at the Registration desk near the front entrance.  Please wear clothes that are easily to remove and re-dress, and remove any jewelry prior to your appointment.

Do I need to book an appointment with Stanton Territorial Hospital to get my x-ray and urine test done?

No. For urine or blood sampling, the Laboratory office is open for walk-ins Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. For x-rays, the Diagnostic Imaging office is open for walk-ins Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.


When will test results be available and medical reports submitted to the government?

Medical reports will be submitted by our office between 24-48 hours from your visit.


What is the status of my application?

We will submit your medical reports to Immigration within 1-2 days. If the status has not been updated on the IRCC website, your case has been submitted to IRCC by our office but yet to be reviewed by Immigration officials.

What do I need to bring to an appointment?

You need to bring:

  • Proper identification – at least 1 government-issued document with your photograph and signature, such as a passport or national identity card. You may also use a Canadian driver’s license.
  • Any official papers you received from Immigration Canada (CORP, work permit, visitor permit, study permit, etc.)
  • A list of your current medications and the medications in their original containers.
  • Any medical reports or test results that you have for any previous or existing medical conditions.
  • 6 passport size pictures - please bring photos in an envelope to ensure they do not become damaged or soiled.
  • Eyeglasses or contact lenses, if you wear them.
  • Medical Report form (IMM 1017E) – if you don’t get an upfront medical exam, this form will be sent to you.
