The NTHSSA is pleased to spotlight Abigail Holt, a Lactation Consultant within the Midwifery Division, as National Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding Week comes to an end. Since assuming the new position in October 2024, Abigail has worked hard to strengthen infant feeding supports across the territory.
Some of her achievements over that time include providing over 300 clinical consultations, delivering monthly education sessions to multidisciplinary health care providers, and developing protocols for use at NWT birthing sites to protect breastfeeding/chestfeeding practices and reduce non-medical supplementation rates.
It is fitting to jointly recognize National Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding Week and one year of strategic lactation care in the NWT thanks to Abigail’s dedication to her position.
“I want to extend a big thank you/mahsi to each family I have worked with, and to the colleagues and fellow providers who have partnered with me in the vision of improving public access to skilled lactation support in the territory,” she said.
“I look forward to continuing this important work together to see more Northerners be empowered to breastfeed/chestfeed for longer.”
Thank you, Abigail, for everything you do to support families across the Northwest Territories.
