News Release
YELLOWKNIFE (June 11, 2026) – The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) is pleased to celebrate the two-year anniversary of the opening of the Łıwegǫ̀atì Building in Yellowknife, which has enabled enhanced delivery of services for people who live in Yellowknife and for those who travel there for care.
Łıwegǫ̀atì brings to life the NTHSSA’s vision of a campus of care, where services are available to NWT residents who need them, all in one place. By marking the opening milestone, the NTHSSA also wants to recognize and thank the staff across a variety of skilled professions who work hard each day, delivering care and working toward the organization’s goal of continuous improvement to ensure clients receive culturally safe, quality care.
Programs and services at Łıwegǫ̀atì include Outpatient Rehabilitation services: Audiology, Child Development Team, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Speech Language Pathology; Long-Term Care, including level 5 (Extended Care) and level 3/4 homes; and Primary Care, delivered through four integrated care teams: Wolf, Caribou, Hawk, and Muskox. Care providers can see clients in a modern, multi-functional facility where patient care and safety are priorities.
Improvement efforts continue and will remain ongoing, but there are already several areas to be proud of that demonstrate the campus of care model is working. In primary care, for instance, the 2025–2026 fiscal year saw successful streamlining of patient services, with Łıwegǫ̀atì accommodating 32,754 patients and the Yellowknife Primary Care Clinic (YPCC) serving 5,151. Compared to a combined total of 32,744 patients at the old Frame Lake Clinic and YPCC in 2023–2024, this indicates enhanced service delivery and a more efficient allocation of care.
Other successes include:
- Establishing a volunteer program and pet therapy to support long-term care residents through visits, activities, and support for Elders to stay connected to their community. This initiative is expected to grow and expand into additional areas.
- Collaborative assessments and interventions within the Rehabilitation disciplines, including the Neurodivergent Education Group for caregivers of neurodivergent children with feeding differences.
- Creating new positions, such as Medical Travel Nurse Case Managers.
- And much more.
To celebrate this special milestone, the NTHSSA is excited to offer seed packs to visitors as they pass by the building. This small gesture encourages everyone to plant seeds in recognition of two years of growth at Łıwegǫ̀atì. The “planting seeds” theme symbolizes our ongoing journey of growth, raises awareness of our services, and reaffirms our dedication to continuous improvement. Residents are also invited to share a photo of themselves planting seeds for a chance to win a prize. We hope this inspires everyone to participate and celebrate together.
