Yellowknife Health and Social Services operates two clinics in Yellowknife and one health centre in both Fort Resolution and Lutsel K’e.  At these clinics and health centres Yellowknife Health and Social Services offers a broad range of services which may include:

  • Health promotion, including:
    • Healthy lifestyle promotion
    • Maternal health
    • Reproductive and child care; and
    • Community development.
  • Health protection and preventative, including:
    • Screening    
    • Intervention disease control
    • Prevention of injury
    • Prevention of chronic diseases and addictions
    • Hearing and vision; and
    • Early intervention.

Yellowknife Health Services

Services are delivered at two clinic sites in Yellowknife:

Appointments can be made at both clinics by calling either of the above numbers. Please note that there may be a delay in speaking to a program assistant if the call volume is high. A broad range of practitioners including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, counsellors, dietitians and more, are available to meet many of your health care needs.

Services may include:

  • Health promotion, including healthy lifestyle promotion, maternal health, reproductive and child care and community development.

Same Day Services

The Yellowknife Primary Care Centre currently offers same-day appointments.

The clinic hours are:

  • Monday to Friday:  8:05am to 12:00pm and 4:30pm to 9:00pm
    • Last appointment at 8:15 pm
  • Saturdays: 10:00am to 4:00pm
    • Last appointment at 3:30 pm
  • Sundays: Closed

Clinic phone lines are open from:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:05am to 8:25pm
  • Saturdays: 8:35am to 4:00pm

Same day appointments can be booked over the phone while the clinic phone lines are open. Each day we have a limited number of same-day appointments available.  Patients are encouraged to call the clinic early in the day to secure an appointment.

Diagnostic Imaging includes the following:

  • General/routine X-rays
  • Ultrasound
  • Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD) which checks how strong your bones are

What do we do at the Laboratory?

The Lab Services include a wide range of tests performed on blood, body fluids and tissues in order to help the healthcare provider correctly detect, diagnose and prevent diseases.

Do I need to do anything before coming to Diagnostic Imaging or the Laboratory?

You must register at the reception desk when you arrive, you must bring:

  • The paperwork or requisition the doctor or nurse gave you
  • Your healthcare card
  • A piece of photo identification

If you have an appointment, please arrive 15 to 20 minutes before your appointment to give yourself enough time to register.

One nurse practitioner, one community health nurse, a Community Health Representative and a clerk interpreter provide the following services at the health centre.
