News Release
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (July 27, 2026) – The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) has concluded its ‘52 Improvements in 52 Weeks’ initiative, an internal campaign initially directed by the Public Administrator, focused on small but meaningful changes across the organization.
Since July 2025, staff across the NTHSSA have implemented a range of small but meaningful improvements aimed at enhancing experiences for both clients and employees. These initiatives have ranged from client-centred projects, wayfinding enhancements, and training and workflow improvements designed to strengthen staff performance, boost morale, and support high-quality care.
Throughout the initiative, staff shared their improvement projects and demonstrated how these changes have positively impacted teams, departments, and client experiences. Collectively, these efforts have streamlined day-to-day operations, improved efficiencies across regions, and enhanced the overall experience of working at and visiting NTHSSA facilities.
By empowering staff to identify opportunities for improvement and implement practical solutions, the NTHSSA has fostered a culture of continuous improvement and remains committed to strengthening this approach. While work continues on larger organizational priorities over the medium and long term, these small, actionable changes are already delivering tangible benefits for staff and clients. We look forward to seeing how staff continue to build on this momentum and drive positive change across the organization.
Each of the ‘52 Improvements in 52 Weeks’ initiatives connects to the NTHSSA’s vision of best care, best health, and better future. Though only one was showcased each week formally, over the past year, over 100 emails from staff were received sharing stories about changes implemented, good work taking place, or ideas they had for improvements.

“I am proud of the staff across the NTHSSA for their efforts on this initiative. From the beginning, I emphasized that these small changes might not seem significant on their own, but collectively they can create big impact. This initiative has demonstrated staff’s strong commitment to enhancing the care residents receive across the organization, and the work they have done has been thoughtful and focused on ensuring continuous improvement in both staff and client experience. As we look back at the initiatives highlighted over the past year, staff should be proud of the work they have done, and residents can remain confident that their commitment to continuous quality improvement remains strong.”
