NTHSSA reflects on six months of staff-led initiatives in support of the Public Administrator’s “52 Improvements in 52 Weeks” initiative

News Release

YELLOWKNIFE (January 13, 2026) – As the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) passes the halfway point of the Public Administrator’s “52 Improvements in 52 Weeks” initiative - an internal campaign focused on small but meaningful changes across the organization - we are proud to reflect on staff-led efforts that are making a difference across the NTHSSA and throughout the territory.

Since July 2025, each week the NTHSSA has featured a different initiative designed to improve experiences for staff and clients alike. From hosting chit chat cafés that invite staff and clients to share experiences, to implementing weekly cultural knowledge sessions to learn traditional skills, or implementing workflow improvements across regions, these efforts demonstrate an organization-wide commitment to being responsive to staff and client needs and working together to make improvements.  The best part - these initiatives are entirely staff-generated. Submission come directly from frontline teams who recognized a need and took the initiative to implement quick, effective solutions.

All initiatives highlighted connect to at least one of the NTHSSA’s vision for best care, best health, better future. The intent is to encourage small, quickly actionable ideas that improve quality, align with goals, and empower staff to share their ideas, while larger organizational changes are planned for the medium and long term. Not every idea implemented is going to be a success but testing and learning from collective effort drives progress.

The “52 Improvements in 52 Weeks” initiative is just one of many ways the NTHSSA is highlighting improvement efforts across the organization and empowering staff to take initiative and feel confident in their roles.

Quotes:

“I am proud to see how this initiative has been implemented across the regions and look forward to reading these each week. The work to drive improvement reflects the strong, ongoing commitment from staff across the organization to enhance care and strengthen health and social services for both staff and residents. While not every idea generated will be implemented or succeed, we want to try things and if they don’t work, try the next thing.” – Dan Florizone, Public Administrator
