Early Childhood Oral Health Program

The NTHSSA Community Oral Health program offers Early Childhood Oral Health services in Fort Smith, Fort Simpson, Inuvik, Fort McPherson and Norman Wells.  Each of these communities has either a Dental Hygienists or Dental Therapists located in the community, and these hygienists and therapists also travel to the surrounding communities in their regions to provide services.

Our Early Childhood Oral Health Program delivers primary oral health services to all infants and Children.  Services include:

  • Oral health assessment
  • Oral health risk screening
  • Oral Health education
  • Fluoride Varnish application
  • Referral to an oral health professional

Who can Access the Early Childhood Oral Health Program

All infants and Children aged 0-4 year old in NWT Communities.

How to Access the Early Childhood Oral Health Program

If you are located in Fort Smith, Fort Simpson, Inuvik, or Norman Wells, contact your local health centre to book your child’s appointment..  

If you are located in a smaller community, contact your local health centre to find out when the Hygenist or Dental Therapist will be visiting, and book your child’s appointment.

What to Bring

Arrive 15-20 minutes early to your child’s appointment and check in at the front desk.  To check in you will be required to show:

  • Your healthcare card
  • A piece of photo identification
