Prenatal Oral Health Program

The NTHSSA Community Oral Health program offers Prenatal Oral Health services in Fort Smith, Fort Simpson, Inuvik, Fort McPherson and Norman Wells.  Each of these communities has either a Dental Hygienists or Dental Therapists located in the community, and these hygienists and therapists also travel to the surrounding communities in their regions to provide services.

Our Prenatal Oral Health Program supports health centre in delivery primary oral health care services to expectant mothers.  Services include:

  • Oral health assessment,
  • Oral health risk screening,
  • Oral Health education for mother and child, and
  • Referral to an oral health professional, when required.

How to Access the Prenatal Oral Health Program

If you are located in Fort Smith, Fort Simpson, Inuvik, or Norman Wells, contact your local health centre to book an appointment for prenatal classes.  

If you are located in a smaller community, contact your local health centre to find out when the Hygienist or Dental Therapist will be visiting, and book an appointment for a prenatal class.

What to Bring

Arrive 15-20 minutes early to your prenatal class and check in at the front desk.  To check in you will be required to show:

  • Your healthcare card
  • A piece of photo identification
