Stanton Rehabilitation Persistent Pain Program
The goal of the persistent pain program is to explain how pain works in the body and to help clients learn how to manage persistent pain using a variety of physical and mental techniques. The program is in-person in a small group setting to decrease the sense of isolation for clients and to encourage better use of community resources.
Constituents will need to complete ONE mandatory Introduction session prior to attending the FIVE part Education series (held weekly).
Introduction (anyone can attend, no referral needed):
- Explanation of pain and how to change the nervous system
Five Part Series (referral required and must have attended the introductory session):
- Establishing baseline, comfortable movement and function, pacing, setting goals, and developing an action plan to gradually increase client’s activity level
- Breathing and body scanning and drugless steps to better sleep
- Learning gentle movement techniques, body mechanics and healthier body posture
- Learning about stress and relaxation techniques
- Information about community resources client can participate in at end of program and client completion of questionnaires
All Introductory Sessions are done in-person.
