News Release: Office of Client Experience Celebrates One Year Anniversary

(Yellowknife - February 27, 2024) – The Office of Client Experience (OCE), located with the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) but serving residents in all Northwest Territories (NWT) communities and regions, is celebrating one-year of assisting NWT residents and guests who have questions or concerns when accessing care or services from the NWT’s health and social services system.

News Release: 2nd Acute Care Nursing Conference and Expo a Success

(Yellowknife – February 21, 2024) – From February 6th to February 9th, 2024, the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) proudly hosted the 2nd Acute Care Nursing Conference, bringing together nurses from across the Northwest Territories (NWT). This four-day event, jointly funded by the NTHSSA and the Department of Health and Social Services (HSS), served as a platform for showcasing the latest advancements, practices, and strategic insights in the ever-evolving field.

News Release – CASN Nursing Residency Program Contributes to Nurse Training and Mentorship in the NWT

(Yellowknife, May 10, 2023) – During Nursing Week the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority is proud to announce the continuation of a partnership with the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) for the implementation of the Nursing Residency Program.

This 6-month program supports newly graduated registered nurses (RNs) within their first year in managing the transition from classroom to workplace, as well as providing training for seasoned RNs to support, orient, and mentor students in the workplace. 

News Release - NTHSSA hosts in-person and virtual events for Take Our Kids to Work Day for Grade 9 students on November 2nd, 2022

Yellowknife (October 26, 2022) – The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority will be hosting in-person and virtual events on November 2nd for any interested Grade 9 students, as part of Take Our Kids to Work Day. The annual event is offered to Grade 9 students across Canada as an experiential training opportunity.

Statement from the Chairpersons of the NWT Health and Social Services Authorities Regarding Staffing and Service Reductions

(Yellowknife, Hay River, and Behchoko, July 14, 2022) - Shortages of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and allied health professionals such as medical laboratory technologists continue to lead to service reductions or closures throughout the NWT. 

Stanton Territorial Hospital to Resume all Labour and Delivery Services for NWT Residents

YELLOWKNIFE (February 22, 2022) – The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority will resume labour and delivery services at Stanton Territorial Hospital for all NWT residents. This represents a more rapid reopening than previously announced on January 26 and is possible due to improved staffing outlook through March and April.

Stanton Territorial Hospital to Begin Phased Resumption of Labour and Delivery Services

YELLOWKNIFE (January 26, 2022) – The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority will begin a phased resumption of labour  and delivery services at Stanton Territorial Hospital. The first phase will include the resumption of regular services for NWT residents who are expecting their second or subsequent child or who have a scheduled cesarean section. Individuals who are expecting their first child or who are residents of Nunavut will continue to have their care provided in Edmonton.

YELLOWKNIFE (June 26 , 2019) – Expanded Same Day Access to primary care clinic services in Yellowknife is the first of six demonstration projects being undertaken by NWT health authorities in collaboration with the Department of Health and Social Services.
