Keeping your mouth clean and free of disease is important for your oral health and your overall health. People of all ages should be sure to maintain good oral health, by brushing and flossing regularly, eating healthy, and visiting the dentist and dental hygienist regularly.  

In the Northwest Territories, private dental clinics offer Hygienist and Dental services in Hay River, Inuvik, Fort Smith, and Yellowknife.  Find a full list of these dental clinics and their contact information here

Medical Travel

Medical travel services coordinated by NTHSSA

This page explains how to access medical travel services coordinated by the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA). It applies to residents who qualify for travel benefits under the Medical Travel Policy’s high and low income, Extended Health Benefits (EHB), Métis Health Benefits (MHB), or Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB).

Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Services

Diagnostic imaging is a branch of medicine that uses state of the art technology to assist health care providers in the diagnosis of injuries and abnormalities. The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority offers a variety of diagnostic services at our hospitals and health centres and also works in partnership with southern facilities for provision of expanded, specialized testing.  
The diagnostic imaging services that we provide include:

Laboratory Services

Laboratory Services includes a wide range of routine and specialized tests that are used to support clinicians in detecting, diagnosing, preventing and monitoring diseases. Tests are performed on blood, body fluids and tissues.

Healthy Family Program

The Healthy Family Program (HFP) has been renewed so that services are more inclusive, preventative, and centered around culture. Many communities in each NWT region have an HFP, and it is open universally to anyone who has young children (prenatal to age six) that is interested in learning and sharing about children and caregiving.

The HFP supports early childhood development by providing information and activities that are fun and free for families.

NOW is a program dedicated to making reproductive choice and abortion services available to pregnant people in the Northwest Territories and Kitikmeot region of Nunavut. Our mission is to provide accessible, patient centered, non-judgmental, evidenced based, safe abortion care.
