PUBLIC NOTICE: NTHSSA to host cervical cancer screening clinic on January 28

(Yellowknife – January 23, 2023) During Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, the NTHSSA invites those who are due for a cervical cancer screening (Pap) test to attend the clinic at the Yellowknife Primary Care Clinic on Saturday, January 28, 2023. People with cervixes should begin cervical cancer screening at age 21, or 3 years after becoming sexually active; whichever comes first.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Yellowknife Boarding Home to move locations on December 10

(Yellowknife – December 9, 2022) Please be advised that Vital Abel will be moving to their new building on Saturday, December 10.

The Yellowknife boarding home which accommodates NWT medical travellers will be moving their operations from the Vital Abel boarding home located in Ndilo, to the Keskorie boarding home located on 4105 Franklin Avenue, previously the Slave Lake Inn across from the Racquet Club.

Services may experience slight interruption during the transition and your patience is greatly appreciated as we navigate this change.

PUBLIC NOTICE: NTHSSA to host pop-up Syphillis and HIV testing clinic

(Yellowknife – November 23, 2022) - On World AIDS Day (December 1st), the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) is hosting a pop-up clinic in Yellowknife where individuals can get a quick STI test without an appointment. The clinic will be open from 9am to 6pm in the Centre Square Mall. All residents are invited to come for information or to access testing, and to help break down stigma of sexually transmitted infections.

PUBLIC NOTICE: NTHSSA Encourages Residents to “Make the Right Call” by Contacting their Clinic if they Cannot Attend an Appointment

(Yellowknife – November 22, 2022) As the NWT health and social services system continues to be impacted by staffing shortages leading to service reductions residents are being encouraged to be mindful of appointment availability and ensure they cancel any appointments they cannot attend. To remind residents about the need to conserve resources, the NTHSSA will be running a campaign to encourage patients to cancel their appointments if they are no longer needed or ensure they are putting reminders in their schedule so they are not missed.

Public Notice: Prenatal Education Classes to be offered in October

(Yellowknife, September 27, 2022) Public Health will be offering prenatal education classes for pregnant people and their partner / support person. These classes are open to pregnant people at any gestation. Refreshments will be provided. Although individuals are not required to register for both classes, they are encouraged to do so.

October 12th, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm: Pregnancy, Labour, & Delivery

October 13th, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm: Infant Feeding & Newborn Care

Public Notice - Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) & Occupational Therapy (OT) Service Prioritization for 2022/23 School Year

(Yellowknife, September 21, 2022) – Due to limited staffing capacity, in-school Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) and Occupational Therapy (OT) programing delivered by the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) are being reduced during the 2022/23 School year. OT and SLP services and supports will be available at clinic sites and will be prioritized for children with complex needs and children 0-5 years of age. Additionally, service prioritization will allow for travel clinics to continue in communities to deliver care close to home.
