PUBLIC NOTICE: Increasing demand in Yellowknife due to respiratory virus season leading to longer than normal expected wait times; impacts in Acute Care and Primary Care Services

(Yellowknife, January 5, 2024) - The NTHSSA is advising residents that ongoing demands related to respiratory virus season caused by Influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 are causing increased pressure on services in Yellowknife at Stanton Territorial Hospital and Primary Care sites in the capital.

We are also seeing cases of respiratory illness in other areas of the territory and after the holiday travel period this is likely to increase, all residents should be diligent in this period and should follow healthy habits.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Yellowknife Primary Care Clinic Laboratory closed from December 4, 2023 – January 1, 2024

(Yellowknife, November 30, 2023) The NTHSSA is advising residents that the Yellowknife Primary Care Clinic (YPCC) laboratory will be closed for service from December 4, 2023 – January 1, 2024 due to staffing.

During this closure, the laboratory at the Stanton Territorial Hospital will continue to be available from 8:00AM – 3:30PM, Monday through Friday, excluding the upcoming statutory holidays on December 25, 26, and January 1.

Meeting Announcement: Leadership Council Meeting - December 7, 2023

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority’s Leadership Council is holding its quarterly public meeting on December 7th from 9:00PM - 4:30PM. The meeting will be held in the boardroom at Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife and will be open to the public to attend in person.

Public Notice: Residents Advised to use Caution in Accessing Stanton Territorial Hospital due to Water Main Leak on Byrne Road

UPDATE - November 24: The water main break at Stanton Territorial Hospital is scheduled to undergo repair during the evening of November 24, 2023. Hospital operations will continue as usual, the public are advised to obey all traffic control measures and to use caution as crews and equipment will be in the area. There may also be sections of roadway or parking lots that are slippery due to ice.

PUBLIC NOTICE: NTHSSA to host cervical cancer and sexual health screening clinic on October 21

(Yellowknife – October 16, 2023) The NTHSSA invites those who are due for a cervical cancer screening (Pap) test or those who would like to be screened for a sexually transmitted and blood borne infection (STI), to attend the clinic at the Yellowknife Primary Care Centre on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

It is recommended that cervical cancer screening begin at age 21, or 3 years after becoming sexually active; whichever comes first.

PUBLIC NOTICE: NWT Youth Cultural Wellness Camp Launching in November 2023

(Yellowknife, October 16, 2023) – The NTHSSA is announcing its partnership with Four Roads Consulting to pilot two land-based mental health and wellness Camps for youth 12-18 years of age. Blending Indigenous and westernized approaches, a skilled team will work with youth to begin their healing journey to improved mental health and wellness. This Camp is followed by a holistic after-care component to support youth in ongoing healing and building connections with supports within their Community and Region.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Updates to Rehabilitation Travel Clinics

(Yellowknife - October 13, 2023) The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority is providing notice to NWT residents about upcoming changes to rehabilitation travel clinics. These adjustments have been made to ensure services are being delivered in the most effective and efficient manner in light of ongoing and significant shortages of qualified rehab professionals.
